Surfaces and Preparation
A useful estimate names the surfaces included — which walls, trim, ceilings, or exterior elevations — and the preparation each requires. Vague estimates lead to surprises, so the prep work should be spelled out, not assumed.
Materials and Exclusions
The products, primers, and sheens should be listed, along with what is explicitly excluded. Knowing what isn't included is just as important as knowing what is.
Scheduling and Timing
For exterior work especially, timing depends on suitable application conditions. A clear estimate addresses scheduling expectations rather than promising a fixed date that conditions may not allow.
