What to Look For
Chinking seals the joints between logs, and over time it can crack, pull away, or leave gaps. A simple walk-around inspection can catch issues early. Look for visible cracking, sections pulling away from the log faces, gaps where chinking is missing, and any signs of moisture or pests near the joints.
When to Request Assessment
If you see widespread cracking, gaps, or moisture concerns, it's worth requesting an on-site assessment. We encourage looking at the actual conditions rather than diagnosing the property online — every log home is a little different.
What Chinking Can and Can't Do
Chinking helps limit air, moisture, and pest movement at the joints, but it doesn't resolve every underlying issue on its own. If there's a moisture source or structural concern, that may need separate attention.
